Q: Why are my Migraine pills (Sumatriptan) causing me to have more frequent migraines?
I think im suffering from Rebound headaches because i seem to wake up with a headache every morning and it keeps me awake during the night—the thing is i use the sumatriptan to stop this happening and the migraines do stop when i take them, but still every day i wake up with a migraine and have to take more –Even when i stop taking them the pain is so bad. but i have to take one daily to ease the pain.

A: I wouldn’t assume that if I were you. Two questions. 1) Do you take a medicine regularly for your migraines to prevent them? This is very different treatment to the Imitrex. 2) How are you taking the Imitrex? This drug is only for a headache that is already present. Imitrex is not for prevention of headaches.
You need to be reassed by your doctor for this since it sounds as if your headaches have gotten worse. If you are really having frequent migraines, which it sounds like you are, then the prevention method might do better for you than the Imitrex. Imitrex has many very bad side effects but they are more along the heart and blood pressure lines. Any pain med taken repeatedly can cause rebound pain, even Tylenol, especially headaches. Diet can be a factor with migraines and your doctor can give you a list of foods that are thought to trigger migraine attacks which you can then try to determine if they are guilty of affecting you. With migraines prevention is the best treatment if possible and there are several drugs that can be tried. Talk to your doctor about this soon. Topamax is one used frequently and may even control the migraines so that Imitrex is only needed occasionally if at all.

Q: Does the generic form of imitrex ( called Sumatriptan ) lower blood sugar?
I have type 2 diabetes & have been given the generic form of imitrex for my migraines.
I recently had a CT Scan of my brain, but yet have to get the results from that.
I was wondering if anyone knew if this medicine caused the blood sugar to lower?

A: I’ve never heard of imitrex lowering blood sugar. I’m sure that if this was a side effect that it would need to be listed because of all the people that hav normal blood sugar. This would make theirs fall also causing many to be warned of the fact. You can always ask the pharmacist but I’m almost sure you’d get the same answer. Good luck and God Bless

Q: does the pill sumatriptan make you high?
i want to know if the pill above will make you have the same effects of pot because i want allow any thing in my home an i think my daughter n law is on the pill or maybe something else because she goes around high an space out all the time pls help me with this issue

A: No. It’s for migraines, and it is not a pain medication. It acts on the cardiovascular system to stop the vasodilation that causes migraines. It will not get anyone high.

Q: is there any powerpoint presentation available about sumatriptan?

A: Hi, I find a fantastic website to download free powerpoint templates, http://www.PowerpointsFree.com All PowerPoint templates are free for download and created originally, Most of PowerPoint templates have Chinese style.

Q: Is it safe to take sumatriptan for migraines whilst possibly pregnant (ttc)?

A: The only thing that I was told is safe to take while pregnant is Tylenol. Never Ibuprofen such as Advil or Motrin. My Dr. and pharmacists suggest if possible not to take any meds unless absolutely necessary during the 1st trimester.

Try laying in a dark room with a cold rag on your head.

Good luck.. I hope you find some relief.

Q: Sumatriptan side effects?
Ok so on friday afternoon, at around 4:30pm I took a pill, Sumatriptan, to relieve me from my migraine, I was prescribed it from my doctor. Although, after I took it I started to feel really drowsy, and I got pains in my right leg, and in my neck. I fell asleep at around 5:00pm and didn’t wake up until 9:30am, the next day. That’s 17 and a half hours of sleep. I was wondering if there was something wrong about it?

A: There are lots of side effects to Sumatriptan. Those side effects include neck pain, chest pain, chest tightness, chest pressure, abnormal warming or burning sensations, tingling, numbness, fatigue, fainting, decreased blood pressure, increased blood pressure, and breast tenderness. All of these are considered normal side effects, which are things that you should expect while taking Sumatriptan. If you have shortness of breath, bloody diarrhea, or seizures, you should report them to your doctor immediately.

What you described is common with Sumatriptan. Also the sleeping for a long time is common with migraines. Doesn’t sound like anything to worry about, unless the migraine lasts more than 96 hours, if it does, you need to seek medical attention immediately.

Q: Are SSRIs (for depression) Safe with Sumatriptan (for migraine)?

A: I took Maxalt for the first time yesterday. I am on Effexor which is an SSRI. I passed out into a coma like state and couldnt wake up. Be careful!

Q: When will an affordable generic for Imitrex be available?
It is my understanding that Sumatriptan Succinate, sold under the brand name Imitrex®, was patented in 1991.

A: According to the FDA, patents on drugs last for 20 years. (Somehow, I thought it was 14 or 17).

Q: Where Sumatriptan is Generic?
Which countries

A: Sumatriptan is the generic drug for Imitrex, and Imigran.

Any Country that has approved the use of Imitrex or Imigran, should be able to provide Sumatriptan as the generic pharmaceutical.

Q: What to do if you swallowed two pills?
Ok so my mom swallowed two pills one DIVALPROEX SOD DR 250MG and a SUMATRIPTAN SUCCINATE 100MG both are calm migraine headaches she does’nt feel so well her left arm and upper back hurts she has problems breathing and is afraid that if she goes to sleep she might not wake up. What can i do?

A: according to the nurses desk reference on my pc it SHOULD be ok to take them together assuming that she hasn’t taken anything else. with the problems you say she is having I would call 911 or drive her to a local er just to be safe if she is having a migraine along with the problems you listed she could be having a heart attack, stroke, her blood pressure could be high and at risk for either or the previous. I wouldn’t rest well with the answers you get on here. seek medical advice from someone that can evaluate her while in the same room.

Q: for the pharmacists or doctors out there?
can i take acetaminophen and imitrex(sumatriptan) together?

A: ayana862004,
There are no known results of interaction between acetaminophen and imitrex(sumatriptan), however, this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. ALWAYS consult with your doctor or pharmacist. Q: When will Imitrex be available in generic form in the U.S.?
I found it on-line in Canada. The generic name is sumatriptan. Of course, it is much less expensive there.
When will the patent run out? Imitrex has been around quite a few years.

A: As the previous responder indicated, it will become available after the patent runs out. In this case, according to the FDA website, there are two generic manufacturers that have “Tentative approval” which means that everything they have needed to do from a chemistry and manufacturing standpoint is done – they are just waiting for patent expriy. According to the letters posted, the earliest that they can get approval in June, 2007. There are other patents extending to 2012, for which the generic manufacturer stated that they don’t infringe, or they are unenforcable. However, the brand sued them for patent infringement, which means – that if the brand wins, they can’t alunch the generic until 2012. Otherwise, if the generic wins, they will launch sometime on or after June, 2007.

Sorry that I couldn’t give a clearer response, but this is the reality.

Q: migraine prescriptions?
im 14
and for my migraines im taking
amitriptyline( every night)

and when i feel a migrain coming on i take
naproxen or
my sumatriptan pills,
and if it makes me naucious theyve given my a generic phenergan

has anyone taken any of these and had any side effects?
somethimes i feel extremely wiped out, or is that just me?

A: I’ve taken triptans for migraines and it made them worse…. I also know people who get wiped out from it phenergan is not the greatest for the nausea but zofran is…. Naproxen dosnt help me at all but it does work for some people…. It may take a long time to get them under control but hopefully u find something that works!
And contrary to what some people believe migraines have NOTHING to do with your neck muscles! Migraines are cause mostly by blood vessells in your head and genetics …
