Q: Questions about prozac?
I’ve just started taking prozac (fluoxitine) and was wondering if it is safe to take with sandomigran (pizotifin)? and also I was wondering if it can be taken at night instead of the morning?

A: Yes, it can be taken at night instead of the morning. The reason they tell you to take it in the morning is because it keeps some people awake. I remember it more easily at night, and it’s fine as long as you still take it on a 24 hour cycle.

The list of active ingredients/major drugs that should never be used with Prozac does not include sandomigran /pizotifin… but it also says to ask your doctor about ANY medications before mixing them with Prozac, even over the counter ones…

Q: Help With My Migraine?
Hi, wondering if anyone could provide me with help or answers on my migraine. I used to get bad migraines fairly frequently when i was in high school (about 16-18 yrs old) and was put on sandomigran. that worked for a while but eventually i had to step up the doses untill i was taking 5-6 tablets a day as a preventative. eventually i stopped taking them and the migraines stopped but recently they have come back. I saw the docter but she said come back in a month if they are still as frequent (about 2 a week). They’ve only come back during soccer training and matches. I have a visionary aura for about 20 mins then the migraine. I am now 20 and wondering why theyve come back. Could it be the harsh exercise or maybe heading drills at training? I’m mostly after a prevention if anyone can help me..? I’ve drawn that sugar in the mornings can trigger them so i have been trying to eat better all together. please help. thank you
i don’t think i’m stressed and seem pretty healthy in general

A: migraines are awful. i suffered years ago as a young girl and thought it was lamb that caused mine. so didn`t eat lamb for 15 years and migraines went completly. now i get them quite a lot – about 2 a week. as soon as my vision starts to go I have to take 2 nurofen and 2 migraleve (the pink ones) and on the whole i don`t get the actual attack once my vision is restored. i have also heard that alka seltzer in lemonade is good for the sickness associated with migraine. i havn`t got a clue what triggers mine of now – although it could be stress induced. best wishes to you – i hope you get sorted but in the meantime don`t leave home without any tablets in your bag. i dardn`t even do the skool run without mine in my pocket just in case.

Q: Medication makes me feel well but makes me overweight.?
Hi Guys,

I’m not sure what to do. I have a neurological condition, similar to that of migraines (although its not! haha). After 10 years of suffering I am now on medication; Sandomigran / Pizotifen. I feel so good, but its making me really over weight. Which is making me feel awful!

I have never been a self conscious, but I feel like everyone is talking about my weight and laughing about me. I feel the need to volunteer information to people about the medication and my weight, I don’t want to go out with friends as I feel so uncomfortable and bla.

I am now on holidays until the 5th Jan and I am thinking about just trying to go off the meds all together. Im hoping maybe I will be ok now with out them, but I wonder if I am just being stupid.

I have a pretty normal diet, and I go to the gym (personal training once a week) and the weight just keeps coming on. I used to be a large size 10 small size 12. I am now a large size 14 small 16 (Australian sizes).

What do you think? Im split in two minds over this.

A: sandomigran is pain drug if you are not in pain you can stop it by the way you cannot continue on it for long time cause it cause finger gangren .so stick to prescribed dose by the doctor .pizotefen is prophylactic your doc can switch to another one like propranolol

Q: Can migraine’s ‘reset’ themselves and go away?
I have some sort of migraine variant …. that i have had for years and years. I have only had treatment for the last year or so.

I’m currently on Sandomigran (pizotifen) and I am stacking on weight. I can’t stand it! Although I think it is the lesser of two evils.

I was told that migraine’s can re-set themselves after a period of medication, and they can vanish. I was just wondering if anyone has had this experience?

Of course, I will be speaking to my Neurologist – I just hate all these medications with their side effects. Just wondering about other peoples experiences once going of meds.

Ta.

A: Going by my own experience, I can’t take medication for migraines. I’m not good at taking meds to begin with, but it seems like migraine medication raises my heart rate and usually is very hard on my stomach. I used to get migraines about once a month out of those probably every third one was completely debilitating.
I quit smoking almost a year & a half ago and have only had a few migraines since then. I have been able to manage those with OTC drugs. I used to end up in the ER getting shot up with pain meds & anti nausea. What I don’t know is if all of this is a direct result of not smoking or if my body is just ‘resetting itself’.
I know other people who have had their migraines lessen in number as they have gotten older.
I wish you luck, I understand your pain and I hope that you find something that helps.

Q: Anyone ever used or heard of the painkiller Tramadol (Tramal)?
Last year the doctor said i was getting migraines which were being set off from stress. I was given something called Sandomigran which is supposed to slowly build an immunity to the migraines (which failed) and also something called Tramadol (as Panadol and panadeine extra wasn’t working for me). Anyway these pills really work for me, but the problem is that i have been taking two of these just about everyday. Is taking these whenever i have a migraine (which is almost every school day) going to cause problems in the future? I’m worried about school starting next week as it’s my final year and i just know it’s going to get worse.

A: Tramadol is a fairly mild medication. I’ve been using Fiorinal/Codeine for 20 years for my migraines (nothing else works), and that’s along with much stronger opiates for my spinal pain.

As long as you’re not exceeding the daily dosage requirements you’ll be okay. If the number of migraines you have start requiring more of the meds you’re taking and it exceeds daily dosage limits, it’s likely that it’s not doing as good a job as you think it is. Having a migraine daily is not an uncommon experience, so don’t feel like you’re the only one on the planet with that problem. I’ve dealt with them for 30 years, among other worse kinds of pain (the kind you don’t want to know or experience).

If you’re actually having a migraine and not a tension headache (you can tell the difference, even if doctors can’t) you need to figure out the triggers. For me, a high stress job and certain foods are what trigger mine. It’s likely that school pressures may be triggering your headaches. Still, do you have the classic symptoms? I’ve described it as feeling like you’ve had a large gauge needle shoved into your brain while having the flu, shortly after being hit in the head with a bat, and having someone bounce a basketball on your head afterward. The classic symptoms (most of which, unfortunately I get) are:

1. Extreme light sensitivity
2. Nausea and / or Vomiting
3. Blurred vision / “Squigglies” across the eye
4. Stars when you close your eyes
5. Sharp, extreme pain on one side
6. Extreme throbbing
7. Extreme noise sensitivity
8. The uncontrollable urge to crawl into a dark space and die.

Along with those usually comes an increased pulse and respiratory rate as well. If you’re not experiencing any of those symptoms, you may have another type of headache.

One problem many of us face is that we are raised to trust our doctors at their word that they know what they’re talking about. Such blind trust can get you killed – it almost has me on more than one occasion. Not all doctors keep up with the latest therapies, treatments, and knowledge because they’re overwhelmed with patients. Your best defense is your own knowledge – the ‘net is the most powerful research tool available to most of us, and you, like many others, should always research and find out as much as you can about what your problems are. Only by knowing as much as you can will you be able to determine if your doctor is a quack or not. Some are arrogant to the point that they would rather you suffer instead of admitting they don’t know how to help you. That’s happened to me in the past, and I’ve paid for it with permanent nerve damage in my lower spine. My reward? Pain Management and the strongest opiates for the rest of my life.

Remember also that doctors are like barbers – they provide a service, nothing more, until proven they can be trusted. If you get a bad haircut, do you go back for another one? I’ve been through the worst and the best of the medical community, and unfortunately the bad are getting more prevalent than the good.

Q: anxiety depression causing vision problems, help!?
okay well im thinking that this is what is causing my eye problems, i have been to doctor, optometrist, ophthalmologist, neurologist and psychologist and they’ve pretty much drummed it up to be anxiety caused by stress (previous job) and depression from not getting better from not getting better from all these symptoms.

Im taking 5-htp and st johns wort, but now ive found out ive got anxiety im going to get some passion flower and valerian so hopefully that helps.

my main concern is vision, i read all over the net vision problems can come from anxiety, well i have blurry/fuzzy vision and light seems to burn in for longer than normal, will this get better if my anxiety and depression get better? what can i take to aid my vision in this situation? any remedies?

Im also taking sandomigran, because the neurologist thinks its a type of migraine but i dont think it is, ive had a differen’t type of migraine with the aura and then the pain so im thinking maybe this is might be a neurological problem? viral infection in my brain?

please help!
i dont want to take anti-depressants or anything like that, ive done enough drugs to know the side effects and dont do any of that anymore because they are have negative affects rather than positive.

A: You are a pharmacological nightmare. Please and I say again please get checked for the “genetic dysfunctions” of the high functioning Asperger autistic due to improper diets of allergen.

The name of this “Rare” disease that does not help the most intelligent of our species. What I know about this disease redefines it. I am a Celiac. I suffered greatly all my life at the hands of the proteins found in our number one recommended food source as told to us by the FDA, Wheat, barley, malt and rye proteins called gluten. Gluten Intolerance.

Many people have been diagnosed gluten sensitive, gluten intolerant and Celiac Sprue since I have redefined this “No need to exist” politically generated disease.

When I first opened my mouth about this “Disease”, everyone insisted I was Crazy. Due to physical definitions of what celiacs disease actually is, they were near accurate. The Mal absorption process associated with celiac disease is without question responsible for most levels of mental and neurological dysfunctions.

The most funny thing is you call yourself serotonin with actual proper spelling! Serotonin is lacking due to this mal absorption process that will not allow you to relax.

Under celiacs, the mal absorption process defines with the most accuracy to what my life has been. The stranger part of my story is that a simple dietary change has taken my hyper active brain and made it stable within 1 month of not eating the food that defines mental illness. My stomach was now able to feed my brain because I was not introducing an allergen into my blood stream and antibodies were now not attacking the source, the small intestine.

A reaction happens under this auto immune attack is much more common than people know. We all have genetic propensity for this to occur, and the amount of intelligence combine with enough generated PSLs(Personal stress level index) is the trigger, or more simply put Stress plus brains triggers it.

Now when your stomach cannot feed your brain and mostly what you eat is now a known food allergen to our human pack mammal species. In nature if your brain is starving for nutrient, a natural reaction occurs. It signals the release of adrenylin and cortisol into the system which is designed to increase focus and senses.

In nature, if you are not eating an allergen, the natural antidote to the stress super soldier formulas of those stated hormones is called serotonin! This is not produced by the body. This is absorbed in the small intestine in the last 2 feet of the 25 foot all important organ. If you are eating the allergen you cannot absorb serotonin!

Celiac study is your first step in the road to recovery. Learn what a “gluten free” diet is. People generally feel this is some sort of death sentence. I have as many options as you do to eat, minus 1. Flour is offered in any form you wish without any wheat. You can eat all the meat, fish, fruits and veggies you want. You can substitute the starches for nearly anything, potato, rice, bean starches, tapioca starches and a list so long you may ask why didn’t anyone think of this before.

Cookies and cakes and breads and pastas do not need to be made with the defining allergen of mental illness. good luck!

Q: Migraine Preventative Meds: Weight gain?
I am on Sandomigran (Pizotifen) and I have gained heaps of weight.

Have heard weight gain is really common with migraine meds.

P.S. I have Migraine Varients and I am yet to meet anyone with similar symptoms as mine. Mine are more like temporal lobe seizures if anything. Would love to hear your symptoms of you have migraine varients, just out of interest!
Herbal Heidi: My mum works for one of Australias top natropaths so I have that side covered!

A: When I was in my teens I suffered really bad “headaches” and the doctors told me I would probably need to take medication for the rest of my life. They were really that bad – Everything hurt! When I was 19 a dentist sent me off for a facial xray which showed 3 of my wisdom teeth were seriously impacted. Once all wisdoms were surgically removed the noticeable side effect was no more headaches! No one had ever suggested these teeth may have been the cause. Good luck!

Ps. Also suffered serious headaches following a vehicle accident in my 20s. The headaches were caused by muscle spasms, causing disk prolapse. The doctors would only prescribe codeine. I eventually found a chiropractor that could do wonderful “adjustments” to my neck with almost immediate relief. Just thought it was worth a mention.

Q: Migraine meds and alcohol help needed!?
I get migraines that affect the serotonin receptors in my brain and have been prescribed Sandomigran to treat them.
On the label of my medication it reads “may increase the effects of alcohol”, so for a while I refrained from all drinking.
But recently I gave it a go. I drank enough to get my very drunk but hardly felt tipsy.
Another time I got giggly but was then suddenly hit by a huge wave of fatigue and went to sleep.
I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced these sort of effects? And also, if drinking puts me in any danger???
I’m quite paranoid.
These migraines have put me into a state of terror… the first time I got one I felt like I was dying.

Any advice and/or info would be well appreciated.

A: Nearly all prescription meds have this warning as mixing them with alcohol can cause an overdose and the company needs to put a warning on the bottle so they wont be held responsible for an overdose. I take meds with this warning and it means that for some ppl alcohol may take effect more quickly than normal. Be careful, drink in moderation and dont worry about it.
