Q: Are abilify, mirtazapine, oxycodone, estradial, geodon, maxalt, keppra,or migranal available OTC in Canada?
Im wanting to obtain abilify ,mirtazapine ,oxycodone , estradial, geodon, maxalt, keppra,or migranol from Canada, if it is available over the counter? Does anyone know?
A: You need prescriptions. You can buy tylenol with a small amount of codeine ( I think 8 grains) OTC. That’s about it. You can get many drugs from pharmacies in Mexico…dunno if that’s helpful.
Q: can a migranal overdose kill you??
A: Migranal is a nasal spray. Don’t overdose it unnecessarily. It will not kill U but some serious consequence may happen.
Serious and/or life-threatening peripheral ischemia has been associated with the coadministration of DIHYDROERGOTAMINE with potent CYP 3A4 inhibitors including protease inhibitors and macrolide antibiotics. Because CYP 3A4 inhibition elevates the serum levels of DIHYDROERGOTAMINE, the risk for vasospasm leading to cerebral ischemia and/or ischemia of the extremities is increased.

Q: Has anyone received botox injections for migraines?
My daughter is 12 years old and suffers from severe migraines. She has had them since she was 6 years old. She has been on all kinds of preventative medicines. She is now taking Inderal, amitriptyline, along with migralief, butter burr root (homeopathic). Her rescue meds are migranal (nose spray), fiorinal #3, DHE 45 injections. She also takes steroids that tear up her stomach. She can take phenagrin and zofran for vomiting. If we don’t catch the migraine in time we end up in the emergency room for demerol and oxygen. Her migraines last days sometimes weeks so they admit her to keep her comfortable. Most of her meds are as needed. Her neurologist told her that there isn’t anymore drugs to try if these two don’t work as prophylactics. Her blood pressure goes up during these headaches, and now it takes a few days for her to get back to her usual self after a migraine. My daughter is a talented, smart (straight A’s), kind and compassionate. Please share any info you may have.
She has been tested for allergies, she has also had a hormone study, we keep a food diary too, nothing abnormal. My daughter and her neurologist have a very close relationship.. She has had MRI’s w/contrast and w/o. She has had spinal taps, along with every other test you could imagine, blood work, and a eeg. I forgot to tell you that the effects ware off after 2-4 months. I know there is a slim chance this will work and even if it does, it doesn’t mean the migraines are gone forever. She is willing to face the side effects if it can help the pain. One of the hardest things I have to do is sit with her when she has one and hear her beg for someone to help. So if there is any chance this will help, she needs it, we all need it. We have had a second opinon at Pittsburg childrens hospital, they agreed with the neurologist. Thank you for your prayers. We are always praying the last one is the very last one. (She also does yoga and bio-feed back).

Q: I’ve had a chronic migraine since I had a baby 8 mo. ago. Tried many meds & many dr.’s but no relief. What now?
When I got home from the hospital after having my daughter 8 months ago, I got a terrible migraine headache with aura and nausea- all the classic symptoms. I have had migraines since i was 11 but only a few times of year. The migraine that I got 8 months ago has not gone away. It has been classified as chronic and I’ve had no relief except when I first wake up in the morning. As soon as I get out of bed and try to start my day it hits me like a hammer. I have been on so many medications that I can’t even remember the names. I’ve tried immitrex, maxalt, migranal nasal spray, intravenous DHE, benadryl, effexor, topamax and more- you name it and I’ve tried it. I was in the hospital recently for a kidney stone, which they think was caused by one of my medications (probably topamax) and they gave me morphine. The morphine helped the kidney stone, but didn’t touch the headache. The doctor at the hospital was baffled. I have seen numerous neurologists. I’ve even tried botox injections which were quite expensive. I went to a new neurologist this morning and within 30 seconds he told me that he thinks I’m anxious and depressed, and that is the reason I have this migraine. I tried to tell him that it was the other way around, but he got very defensive when I questioned him and was extremely rude. He gave me ten “trigger point” injections at the base of my neck and skull. He wants me to try nortriptyline and recommended that I see a psychiatrist. I feel like he looked at my chart, and because I had not responded to any conventional medication, he decided that I must have a psychological disorder. I am willing to face that I may be somewhat depressed as these migraines have made the past 8 months of my life extremely painful and difficult, but I do not feel that depression is causing my headaches. I feel like he made a snap judgment and had no bedside manner at all. I am on a waiting list for a headache clinic, but it is 6 months long and I am physically miserable. I feel like I have so many migraine triggers at this point that I don’t even know what they are. Smells, flashing lights, bright lights in general all make the chronic migraine worse. I have been very disappointed in the doctors I have seen. If they don’t have a medication that works for you they write you off. I had a spinal tap after my daughter was born because one of the doctors thought that maybe my epidural had leaked. It came back clean. My MRI and CT scan are also negative. Is there anyone else out there who is going through this? Am I the only one out there who has had an unresponsive headache for so many months with no relief? I just want to enjoy my family and the activities I enjoyed before this headache took over my life.
A: I know exactly how you are feeling right now. I was in a car accident in January this year where I was hit at 40 MPH head on! There were some visible injuries, like my shoulder and my neck, but there were also some other injuries that could not be seen in standard imaging tests. I developed low blood pressure and a very slow heart beat after the accident. I already had migraines, but they worsened to the point that I had a migraine every day. I went through just about every migraine medication on the market with no relief. I finally ended up being admitted to the hospital in February for an intractable migraine after I passed out and smacked my forehead on my granite countertops in the kitchen. I was there for 4 days on a self administered Dillauded pain pump and several other medications that were given to me by the nurses, like DHE. While I was a little more comfortable, mostly because I was drugged up out of my mind, the migraine was still there when I was finally discharged and sent home. This went on for months. Finally, I was given a tilt table test, and they determined that I had Orthostatic Hypotension which is where your blood pressure suddenly falls after you have been standing for a couple of minutes. Mine dropped down to 52/35! And it was lights out for me. They also hooked me up to a Holter Monitor for 24 hours, which watches every single beat your heart makes while wearing it. They saw 45 Premature Valve Contractions and several times, even when I am awake, my heart rate drops into the low 50’s and mid 40’s. When I sleep it is consistently in the low 30’s. Once I started getting treated for the cardiac problems, the headaches resolved, for the most part. But I had to see, and fire, 5 neurologists before I got this diagnosis. While the problems are somewhat cardiac, they are caused by damage to my nervous system from the car accident, which is why I see a neurologist and am being treated by one of them and not a cardiologist.
I guess what I am trying to say is that your migraines could have a source that is not neurological in nature. There are instances where cardiac issues, such as a small hole in one of the heart valves, can manifest as migraine headaches. Ask you doctor for a few simple tests for your heart, such as an Echo, which is an ultrasound of your heart and the valves, a Holter Moniter, and a Tilt Table Test. Even if you do not pass out, a TTT can pick up problems such as Postural Orthostatic tachycardia, which is where your heart suddenly starts racing when you change position from sitting to standing. This can also cause migraines.
You need to be your own advocate. You know your body better than any doctor every will. If you find a doctor to be rude and disrespectful, fire him. He works for you. Find another doctor that is willing to listen to you and can think outside the box a little bit. These are the doctors that are great and will help you to find relief. Don’t ever let a doctor make you feel like your physical pain is mental if you know very well that it is not. While it is true that psychological imbalances can manifest themselves as physical pain, if you know that your pain is not at all related to your mental health, then you need to make sure you find a doctor that also believe this. If a doctor can not fix your problem with their knowledge and the drugs they know about, then they label you as being a psychiatric patient because God forbid that you have something going on that they are not smart enough to figure out!
Q: Why am I having horrible leg pain?
I am 26 years old, I have had a bad back for about 5 or 6 years. The lower back, lower L4-L5 area has been in bad shape for a while. The only medication ive been on is Amoxicillin, and MIgranal. Just getting over a cold, and the Migranal for treating my migraines. I took Migranal twice, once every 8 hours on Saturday, and once today, monday. Ever sense Sunday morning ive had this horrible pain in my legs. It goes from my lower back where it always hurts, but now more than ever, and this pain goes from the top of my legs, the muscles on the side, as if i were to squeeze both legs toward eachother, to my knees, and down to my feet. It hurts to walk, and im kinda shaky. I asked my Headache doc if this is due to the meds and he said no. Should i believe him? What should i do? Kinda freakin out. Thank you..
The pain in the legs feels like a burning feeling, sore, and is just something ive never felt before.. I typically ice or heat my back when i feel its about to go out, i try to keep active as possible. My mouth is really dry, and just feel weak. Side effects from Migranal?
Another important factor i forgot to mention, on Friday i had the headache doc stick a needle in the back of my head right near those two bones meeting the neck, he said he would inject this medicine with a small concentration of steroids to help block the nerves from neck to head, to prevent the chronic migraines, i dont think this factors into the back/leg issue, but damn, im a mess, thought id mention it..
A: It sounds similar to a pain I had years ago. I went from doctor to doctor to try and find relief, but no such luck! I ended up finding someone in the medical profession who suggested I try a certain stretch–and each time I did it, it helped a little more, and eventually I didn’t need to do it anymore! It’s very simple… Since you say it’s in both legs, you’ll need to do this on both sides. Lay on one side of your bed and drop the foot of your outer leg to the floor. Bring the knee of your other leg up to your chest and hold it for 10 seconds. Relax. Repeat this stretch 10 times. Move to the other side of the bed and repeat these steps for the opposite leg. Several friends have also tried this stretch with success! I hope you find relief soon!
Q: Taking topamax for migraines but it’s not working?
I’ve been on 200 mg per day for several months now (I can’t function on a higher dose) & I just read an article on yahoo http://health.yahoo.com/headache-medications/topiramate-oral/healthwise–d04115a1.html#d04115a1-sideeffects that actually says that headaches can be a side effect of this drug, which would explain why it’s not working for me. I’ve been to a neurologist, who has ruled out any masses or tumors. I’m allergic to Imitrex and other medications (Migranal nasal spray, Fioricet) have just stopped working for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? At this point I’m open to any advice. Thanks for any help.
A: There are some other preventative medications that you can try. The first one is Amitriptilyne. It is a tricyclic antidepressant but has been found to be very effective in preventing migraines. I take 100 mg every night at bed time and it has done wonders for me! It is also used for people with insomnia that do not want to take narcotic sleep medicines. You will sleep like a baby on this! The second medication is called Neurontin. It is technically an anti-seizure medication, but it has also been found to be effective at preventing migraines. I also tried this, but it made me very itchy, so I had to stop taking it, but it did work while I was on it. The third medication is called Depakote. This is also an anti-seizure drug. I do not recommend trying this one until you have exhausted all other options. It is a pretty heavy duty drug and you will need to have your liver and kidney function tested every three months while you are taking it since it can cause damage to these organs. It does work, per all of the research I did on it, but there are some serious side effects, so it is a “last resort” type of drug. As far as stopping a migraine once you get one, have you tried Maxalt MLT? I was not getting any results from the other medications either (Immitrex, relpax, fioricet, midrine) but I tried this one and it works very well for me. It melts in your mouth so you do not have to worry about throwing up a pill if you get nausea and vomiting with your migraines like I do. It’s worth a shot if you have not tried it. Talk to your doctor about the above medications. I would say you should talk to him about the Amitriptilyne first since it works so well and you only have to take it once a day at bed time. Good Luck!
Q: What about neurologist and migraines?
I am a 30 yr old female who has suffered migraines for almost 10 yrs. Since the preganancy of my daughter. My mother also suffered exact migraines. She had a hysterectomy and has not had another migraine since. I have 2 Dr.s that believe my headaches are hormonel related and baromic pressure related. Please forgive my spelling. I experience a migraines atleast once or twice a week. I am familiar at the ER (where the Dr.s are great, some nurses are another story until they see me vomitting everywhere). In the past 7 yrs I have tried every thing. Triptans, things like Migranal, Cafergot, Imitrex,Topamax,Birth Control, you name it,I’ve tried it. I use to have to go in for shots of Demerol and Phenergan then started becoming allergic to that. Darvocet gives me rebounds, They prescribed me Tylenol with codeine but I became allergic to the codeine. They now use a medication on me, only when I visit the Dr. It’s a nubain shot and phenergan. I’ve been on this for about 3 yrs now but only when I am seen by a Dr. I’m so lost. I can’t afford to keep going to he Dr. for these shots. I had one Dr. who would have prescribed it to me with no problem but he was out of state and was a visiting Dr. who couldn’t over step my Dr. He specializes in Phyciatry, so it wouldn’t help to even travel to go see him. My depression worsens all the time cause the pain I am in. I am suppose to be going to a new neurologist this month but am scared to because they will probably just want me to go through everything I have already been through. I don’t do drugs, I have never been addicted to prescription drugs, so I don’t understand why I can’t get a Dr. to prescribe me Nubain. I know it’s a narcotic analgesic, however it’s the best medication they have found to work for me. I do get aura’ with some of my headaches but not all. I just want relief without having to travel to travel to get a shot and pay major bucks. Am I asking to much? I have a EMT who said she would have no problem giving me the shots when I needed them if I could get it prescribed. What are my chances of getting this type of medication from the neurologist? Are they slim. My first neurologist was a joke and spent the whole time talking about what hot dogs where made of and told me not to eat them, no medication no nothing. I have no triggers except weather changes and hormones. Sorry I am going on and on and ready to cry cause I don’t know where to go anymore. I am getting so depressed about this again because I can’t get help. 8 months ago I just got out of a hospital for depression and thought we found answers. After I was released, I was ignored. Now I am starting over. Can anyone please help me. Tired of the pain so bad.
What do I expect from a neurologist?
A: Have you seen an internist? You may have a cardiovascular problem.
I had high blood pressure and high cholesterol and was having migraine visual aura. The doctor ordered an MRI to make sure I did not have an impending stroke. Since he put me on medicines to control those other problems the aura are mostly gone.
Q: Can’t take much more of this pain!!!?
I have neck problems, anxiety and suffer from daily migraines.
I have tried just about every triptan for migraines and several preventative medications. Could not take topamax, zonegran, or beta blockers due to the side effects. I am now on wellbutrin 300mg in the morning, 20mg lexapro at night and 500mg depakote at night. I feel terrible all the time and still have daily migraines. I use imitrex injections and also migranal injections, of course i rotate them since i have to wait 24 hours between them. I have an appt with another migraine specialist June 18th, but lord knows i need to go now. I have been to so many specialists all they want is my money and to put me on so many medications and not even take the time to listen and think about me getting addicted to pain meds. I can’t stay at work all day anymore so money is really tight. This is putting a strain on my family which is driving me crazy. Can anyone help please???
I was in an auto accident 15 years ago and have had 3 mri’s. I have 3 bulging disc in my neck. I have had therapy but didn’t help. My job is very stressful but i have suffered from anxiety attacks since I was 13. Several family members also suffer from migraines. I just want to get better, I went from having a migraine every 3 or 4 months to having one just about every day, some lasting for 4 or 5 days at a time in the last 2 years. I have always been very active with my children and keeping a spotless home to not being able to enjoy any part of my life. Its just hell on earth.
A: What kind of neck problems do you have? Are you tense & stressed & have muscle spasms or do you have arthritis of the neck? Have you been in an accident? You are really taking some strong meds. Why are you anxious? You really need a good MRI & then if it is muscular – a good physical therapist. DO NOT
let a chiropractor wrench your neck!!! Have you tried a psychotherapist? Sounds as if you are over medicated & under diagnosed. Good luck to you!
Q: I suffer from migraines, have bulging discs in neck and have panic attacks. I no longer sleep more than 3 hou
I have tried every triptan but migranal which the doc called in today and the drug store had to order. I am tired of being in daily pain and not sleeping much. The doctor also gave me percocet 10/650 but it hurts my stomach because i normally have to take 3 times daily. Any other choices i could talk to her about I have to work so it can’t knock me out. I also take soma for my neck and xanax and lexapro for anxiety. I’m so tired of being sick and want my life back!
I have read all the information on migraines. I have tried several preventative such as topomax, atentonal, and several other ones. The side effects were terrible.
I can’t take ambien at all it reverses on me. I have tried lunesta and it did not work. She just gave me restoril and i get maybe 3 hours of sleep.
Thanks for all the advice from everyone.
Kristy do you have problems with sleep also. It does not show your email address but my email address is rsmith8996@yahoo so email me.
A: If you can afford it, you could try off label use of botox. It worked rather well for me until I couldn’t afford it. Nerve blocks also works but they are very temporary.
Botox can last up to 3-6 months depending on individuals.
You can also try propranolol or amitriptyline. Those seem to help most of the people.
Most importantly, you should find out what triggers your migraine.
You might want to consider starting a headache diary. It might help you spot a trigger, which will in turn lessen you migraine attacks if you avoid them. This is the best way to minimise your migraine attack.
Whenever you have a migraine, write down the day, date, time, what you have eaten for that day, how long the migraine has lapsed, the pain score (from 1-10, 1 being the least), emotional factor (what was mood, were you feeling depressed, angry or stressed?), what medication have you taken to lessen the pain, and the pain score after the medication.
From there, you might be able to spot patterns like certain food triggers your migraine, or certain days eg mondays because you are in a rush so you didn’t eat breakfast thus lack of food therefore migraine.
What about time? Are you in a very hot or cold place at a particular time? That could trigger migraines. Fluctuating weather and temperature could also trigger migraine. A change in season too. Some people can predict weather by their offset in migraines.
What about stress? Some people get migraine when they are extremely stressful, especially during examination periods, year end job review and so on… That could easily set off a migraine attack…
What about menstrual migraine? some people get migraine before their menses…
Sometimes it is medication overuse. Popping too much over-the-counter painkillers can cause rebound headache. If you realise that you need painkillers almost everyday and you pop a lot of painkillers each day, it could be a sign of rebound headache.
Why not you try keeping a headache diary for a month. Then try to spot patterns. From there, see if you can make changes in your lifestyle and hopefully reduce migraine in your life.
Lastly, before a migraine start, you would have a prodrome. Do you have a particular food craving or mood swings?
During a prodrome, try taking metoclopramide, it might reduces the migraine or even prevent it.
Talk to your doctor, see if he/she can refer you to a specialist, especially one that specialises in headaches. They would be able to go through with you all your options base on your medical history.
Personally, I never regretted paying more for a specialist who could understand my needs and deal with my problems immediately especially when I am one of the problemetic migraineurs who don’t respond readily to medications.
Q: Really stumped on this migraine, how can i kill it?
Its been sense mid march of this year, im 26 years old, ive been to a neurologist, headache doc, physical therapist, and so on. My neck is always in pain, my face and head have so much pressure, my eyes hurt, which causes me to see “white snow” , kind of like tv fuzzy white spots all around, during day/night, especially in daylight, if i were to look at the ground or sky, it looks all fuzzy. The pain mainly originates from the neck, and back of the head. Ive had MRI’s, and CAT scans, all normal, except the MRI showed slight disc inflamation on a few discs in the neck. My ears ring, all the time, my neck and head feel so much pressure my ears hurt. Any cure for this? No doctor has figured it out, i even had shots in the back of my head above the neck by my headache doc, to block the nerve that goes from neck to head, to help the pain. Its been a few weeks sense then, no help with that so far. I take any med you can think of, even Migranal (which is like a nasal spray). Its effective for a small time but didnt work too well for me. Any help would be great. Thanks so much. -Chris.
i agree marine. The migraines been so bad i was in the hospital one night, when it all started, they gave me morphine and 2 perkocet, just to knock me out, didnt kill the pain. I cant figure it out. Ive taken ibprofin, advil, excedrin, tylenol, everything i can think of, nothing works. Keep in mind i dont take meds everyday, for it isnt good for your body, i try to keep it a pill or two a week.
A: i think Exedrin is the best for migrain because i was also having that n now i m good.this drug is magical.
